For the 70th year in a row, the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity will take over La Croisette in Cannes. As the annual honoring of digital, print, social, and international ad campaigns – Cannes Lions is often described as “The Super Bowl of Advertising”. Thousands of creatives around the world have been nominated for a Cannes Lions award in a plethora of sectors.
The event is taking place from June 19-23 and intends on looking at the future of advertising, marketing, and creativity. Unlike previous years, the 2023 Cannes Lions event has an extreme focus on Creators, Creator Marketing, and the overall Creator Economy. This comes just months after a report from Goldman Sachs stated that the overall Creator Economy has the ability to grow to a quarter-of-a-trillion-dollars by 2027.
Emerging Industries To Expect At Cannes Lions 2023
The past year has shown emergence in representation, voice, and eyeballs on moments that matter more than ever. This year, we are expecting some key themes to come out of the Cannes Lions 2023 event and awards:
- The Creator Economy
- Emerging Social Media Platforms
- LGBTQIA+ Representation Internationally
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
- Sustainability
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Generative Creativity
Creators in Cannes
As the Creator Economy continues to grow, so does the scope of importance marketers have towards Creators. Influencer Marketing Hub estimated the expansion of the Creator Economy to bring the annual value of the industry to $21.1 Billion in 2023. This means that marketers from the CMO level all the way down to entry level marketing managers are seeing the importance of investing in Creators to enhance their brand’s awareness, value, voice, and market share.
Companies like Meta, TikTok, Pinterest, Google, Twitch, AdWeek, and more have programming spanning the week in Cannes centered around the value of Creators and their ability to drive long lasting impact on brands.
To name just a few, Creators like Alexandra Cooper of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Emma Chamberlain of Chamberlain Coffee, and Gen-Z entrepreneur Josh Richards are participating in panel talks with industry leading companies at the Cannes Lions event.
